Wednesday, March 7, we are having a Days for Girls get together, at Bob's on the Westside. We'll be there between 9:30 and 10am and stay until???? Bring any nice 100% cotton fabrics for the covers and/or flannel for the pads. Lucy will be there to help lead us through the patterns and assembly. We will be mainly cutting and making kits to distribute, but may also do some sewing, So bring your sewing machine, scissors, rotary cutter. If you bring your own mat, you just need a medium sized mat.
If you weren't here the last time we did this, ask Lucy, Robin, Sue or Kathy about it. It's a great cause and the need is just as great.
We would like to take sign ups, so we know how many people are coming to help. Robin, Kathy and I thought it might be fun to have a potluck or order in pizza. Let us know your preference.
Community Service wants to challenge you to make a Red, White, and Blue 12 1/2" block. It can be any design you chose. It can be pieced or applique. We have some pieces of fabric cut as a start, use fabric from your stash to complete the block, or use all your own fabric. There will be no judging, just the personal satisfaction that you contributed a block to make a quilt for a veteran who put his/her life on the line for you. Just think how many quilts we can make, if each member makes just one block!
The second meeting in April, Thursday, April 19th will be a community service sew in. We will have kits to make quilts, if you don't want to drag your machine, you can help press, cut, etc. or you can take a kit home with you. We might even have a new pattern for you to try. We are also planning a Salad Potluck for that day. Thimbleweeds will provide the lettuce, you bring the goodies to add to it. Just a suggestion or two.....chopped chicken, ground beef, onions, tomatoes, beans, [hmmmm sounds like taco salad.] Bring anything you'd like to have in/on your salad. If you'd like, you can also bring a different salad, like potato, macaroni, fruit, etc., or you can bring a dessert. We'll have a sign up sheet for the potluck and the sew in. Oh and there will be prizes for participants!
