February 2 Meeting

Good Morning Ladies,
This is the week for another fun filled thimbleweed meeting. We'll be having the reception for our quilting friends who are leaving Rio Rancho. If you made blocks, remember to bring them along.
The batik jelly roll swap color is red!
Bring one or two handmade Valentines themed potholders for the potholder swap.
If you have Valentine themed quilts, bring them along for show and tell.
Jeanne will be taking sign ups for her cute little Scotty dog class at the second February meeting. And Linda Littman will introduce the March project and take sign ups as well.
Remember to bring your finished blocks from Kathy's class to show off. I know she would like to take a few photos.
The date for Community Service at Bob's should be WEDNESDAY the 8th, not TUESDAY.
On a personal note, thank you so much for all the kind, sweet, funny cards. You have certainly reminded me to count you all among my many blessings! I have a titanium plate and 6 new screws in my foot. I have to keep weight off of it for 6 weeks, so I will be taking it easy for a while.

January 19

This week's meeting is quickly approaching. We'll be having Kathy Sublett's class. I hope you signed up for the class. Check the newsletter for the supply list...and remember $5 for the kit fee. I bet Kathy would appreciate exact change. Remember if you're in the class, set your machine up on the East side of the room, so all students are near each other. Also, please keep in mind it needs to be pretty quiet while she's presenting...so if you're not in the class, please take your conversation to the back of the room or the foyer.
And, this is the meeting for the walking field trip around Sabana. We'll all be learning the new entrance, where the bathrooms are, and good parking spaces in the back. Lori from the city will be our tour guide!
Our library will be set up, so check (tee hee hee) it out!
At this meeting you can check out raffle tickets from Vicki.
I hope you'll remember your nametag, so you won't be sad if your name is drawn (like someone we know).
This will be the last meeting to bid on Gail's sample garments.  Ann Driscoll will be telling everyone when time is up for the bidding, and then she'll happily accept your checks.  Please make them out to Thimbleweeds with "4-H" in the subject line.  It looks like we'll surpass our $250 goal!
Kathy sent this note about a fabric art installation at UNM:
Special Opportunity for quilters - Join us after the NMQA January 23rd monthly meeting for a special viewing of Maine art quilter, Elizabeth Busch, "Outside- Inside" installation at the new Scientific Lab. It is an extraordinary work commissioned by state of NM. There are 11 pieces ranging in size to 18'. Look at her website for an idea of her work www.elizabethbusch.com.
The Scientific Lab is located at 1101 Camino de Salud NE - off University south of Indian School. It is the last building on the street. Park in the lot that overlooks I-25.
The opening will be from 1:00 - 2:00. Due to security at the building, please bring a photo ID for entry/sign in. The installation is located in the main lobby of the Lab.
She also suggests you bring your camera!

February 2 Meeting

Valentines Potholder Swap
Bring either one or two handmade potholders and we'll swap. Be creative...use a heart block, or choose Valentine colors. Use a couple of layers of cotton batting for the lining, or Insul-brite. You can find lots of neat ideas on the internet. Bring your potholders to the meeting. Be sure and pin on a tag with your name. Turn them in to get a number and we'll hang them up on the clothesline. At the end of the meeting you'll pull a number to see which potholder you'll take home to enjoy. We've had fun with this game in the past and hope you'll join in!

January 5

Diane Bourg kicked off the Block of the Month with four four patches and an outer border. We had a fashion show of Gail Garber's garment samples.

The silent auction, which will raise money for the 4-H Fashion Revue, ends at our next meeting. Quilts from the Rio Rancho Inn show were returned. Tickets for the crazy quilt went up for sale. Ticket sales will continue until after the spring show. Sue also has tickets for the Sunbonnet Sue quilt available.

Treasurer's Report:
Our budget planning meeting for 2012 was held on Jan 5, 2012, after the regular meeting and a delicious Soup Buffet. There were 14 members, including myself, in attendance. We quickly reviewed the procedure of the meeting and how to submit receipts for reimbursement. We reviewed the major categories of expenses and assigned them monies. Additional requests were added. After a very brief discussion, a little quick math, I asked for approval of the budget. It was approved unanimously and the meeting was adjourned.  If any of you would like details, please don't hesitate to call me. An accounting of how our money is spent is available for all to review. Thank you for your confidence in me.
